Question

A farm contains 200 trees, and each tree contains 10 fruits over it. The total fruits in 5 farms, if one of five farms have 10 more trees than they should have is

  1. 10,000
  2. 10,010
  3. 10,050
  4. 11,100

hintHint:

An equation has a constant, variable and an equal to sign. It has two sides LHS and RHS. A linear equation in one variable is equation with only one variable and in which the highest degree is 1. Here, we have to find the value of unknown value, by operating both sides with the same number so that the equation will be balanced.

The correct answer is: 10,050

In the question it is given that,
    One farm= 200 trees.
One tree= 10 fruits over it.
We have to find the total fruits in 5 farms, if one of five farms have 10 more trees than they should have.
Step 1: Convert the word problem into numerical equation.
Let the total number of fruits be x.
    So, the equation will be
Total number of fruits= Number of farmscross timesNumber of trees in each farmcross timesNumber of fruits + Number of extra trees
    rightwards double arrowx= 5cross times200cross times10+10
    rightwards double arrowx= 10000+10
    rightwards double arrowx= 10010
So, the total number of fruits in 5 farms is 1001.
Therefore, the correct option is b, i.e., 10010.

A linear equation in one variable is equation with only one variable and in which the highest degree is 1. A linear equation in one variable can be solved by placing the unknown values on one side and known values on another side of the equation. it is important to operate equal terms on both sides so that the equation will remain balanced.
