Question
Find the the rate of change (unit rate) for the following graph.
- 80
- 20
- 40
- 160
Hint:
Rate of change (Unit rate) in terms of a line represented on a graph refers to the change in y-coordinates for a unit change in x-coordinates.
i.e. If the x-coordinates change by 1 unit, how much does the y-coordinate change?
Unit rate = y2-y1/ x2-x1
The correct answer is: 40
TO FIND-
Rate of change (Unit rate) for the given graph.
SOLUTION-
From the given graph, we observe that-
Given line passes through the points (2,80) and (4,160).
∴ x1 = 2, y1 = 80, x2 = 4, y2 = 160
We calculate the rate of change as-
y2-y1/ x2-x1 = 160-80/ 4-2
∴ y2-y1/ x2-x1 = 80/2
∴ y2-y1/ x2-x1 = 40 .......................................... (Dividing numerator & denominator by 2)
FINAL ANSWER-
Option 'c' i.e. '40' is the correct answer to the given question.
