On adding 24 on both the sides, we get x2 - 4x + y2 + 6y = 24
Lets apply the completing square method, i. e take half of the coefficient of x term and y term from the given equation
and square it. Then add it to the equation.
The coefficient of x- term is -4 and its half is -2. The square of -2 is 4.
Likewise, the coefficient of y-term is 6 and half of it is 3. The square of 3 is 9.
Let’s add these numbers, 4 and 9 on both LHS and RHS to balance the given equation.
Now, we get x2 - 4x + 4 + y2 + 6y + 9 = 24 + 4 + 9
x2 - 4x + 4 + y2 + 6y + 9 = 24 + 4 + 9 can be written as (x - 2)2 + (y + 3)2 = 37
