Question
Solve the equation 4 + (3x-1)/2 = 9 . Explain the reasons why you choose your solution method .
Hint:
An equation in which highest power of any variable is always 1 is known as a Linear equation.
We will simplify the given equation and find the value of x by using transpose method i.e. using inverse of all the operations performed on the given variable x on both the sides to reduce the given equation in its simplest form.
The correct answer is: Value of x for the given equation is 11/3 or 3.67
Step-by-step solution:-
4 + = 9
∴ = 9 - 4 ….................................... (Taking all the constants on the same side)
∴ = 5
∴ (3x - 1) = 5 2 ….................................... (Multiplying both sides by 2)
∴ 3x - 1 = 10
∴ 3x = 10 + 1 .................................... (Taking all the constants on the same side)
∴ 3x = 11
∴ x = ....................................... (Dividing both sides by 3)
∴ x = 3.67
We use the transpose method because the given equation is a linear equation in 1 variable and to get the same in its simplest form, we just need to reverse the operations performed on x on both the sides of the equation.
Final Answer:-
∴ Value of x for the given equation is 11/3 or 3.67.
