Three eighths of the cast in a musical have to sing. Find the fraction of the cast that does not have to sing?
Hint:
Fraction of cast that that does not have to sing = 1 - fraction of cast that has to sing
The correct answer is:
GIVEN-
Fraction of cast that has to sing = 3/8
TO FIND-
Fraction of cast that does not have to sing.
SOLUTION-
Fraction of cast that that does not have to sing = 1 - fraction of cast that has to sing
∴ Fraction of cast that that does not have to sing = 1 - 3/8 ............. (From given information)
∴ Fraction of cast that that does not have to sing = 8/8 - 3/8 ......... (Multiplying and dividing by 8 to make denominator same)
∴ Fraction of cast that that does not have to sing = (8-3)/8
∴ Fraction of cast that that does not have to sing = 5/8
FINAL ANSWER-
Option 'a' i.e. '5/8' is the correct answer to the given question.
