Question
On November 1st, there were 2,500 boxes in a warehouse. On December 1st, there were 15% fewer boxes in the warehouse than there were on November 1st. On January 1st, there were 20% more boxes in the warehouse than there were on December 1st. How many boxes were in the warehouse on January 1st?
- 1,700
- 2,125
- 2,550
- 2,625
The correct answer is: 2,550
Step by step explanation:
Given:
On 1st November no. of boxes = 2500
On 1st December no. of boxes = 15% fewer boxes in the warehouse than there were on November 1st
On 1st January no. of boxes = 20% more boxes in the warehouse than there were on November 1st
Step 1:
As given no. of boxes on will be 15% fewer boxes in the warehouse than there were on November 1st.
∴ No. of boxes on 1st December will be = 2500 - 15% of 2500
⇒ 2500 - 25 × 15.
⇒ 2500 - 375.
⇒ 2125.
Step 2:
As given no. of boxes on will be 20% more boxes in the warehouse than there were on December 1st.
∴ No. of boxes on 1st January will be = 2125 + 20% of 2125
⇒ 2125 + 21.25 20.
⇒ 2125 + 425.0
⇒ 2550
Hence, the number of boxes on 1st january will be 2550.
