Question

The capacitor of capacitance C can be charged (with the help of a resistance R) by a voltage source V, by closing switch S subscript 1 end subscript while keeping switch S subscript 2 end subscript open. The capacitor can be connected in series with an inductor ‘L’ by closing switch S subscript 2 end subscript and opening S subscript 1 end subscript .

After the capacitor gets fully charged, S subscript 1 end subscript is opened and S subscript 2 end subscriptis closed so that the inductor is connected in series with the capacitor. Then,

  1. at t = 0, energy stored in the circuit is purely in the form of magnetic energy
  2. at any time t > 0, current in the circuit is in the same direction
  3. at t > 0, there is no exchange of energy between the inductor and capacitor
  4. at any time, t > 0, instantaneous current in the circuit will have maximum value V square root of fraction numerator C over denominator L end fraction end root comma where C is the capacitance and L is the inductance.

The correct answer is: at any time, t > 0, instantaneous current in the circuit will have maximum value V square root of fraction numerator C over denominator L end fraction end root comma where C is the capacitance and L is the inductance.
