Question
The endpoints of 𝑀𝑁 are M (7, 9) and N (2, 5). A reflection of 𝑀𝑁 results in the image 𝑆𝑇, with coordinates S (7, -9) and T (2, -5). Tell which axis 𝑀𝑁 was reflected in and write the coordinate rule for the reflection.
Hint:
In reflection, mirror image is formed.
The correct answer is: x – axis is the line of reflection and (x , y) → (x , - y) is the coordinate rule
It is given that M (7 , 9) → S (7 , - 9) and
N (2 , 5) → T (2 , -5)
i.e. x – coordinate is same and y – coordinate is negative of the original ordinate.
We know that (x , y) → (x , - y) is the coordinate rule for the reflection when x – axis is the line of reflection.
x – axis is the line of reflection and (x , y) → (x , - y) is the coordinate rule
